Local FTP
In this tutorial, I will teach you how to set up a completely free FTP client where you can manage the contents of your website using your Windows XP computer alone. That means no software installations at all!
Begin by going to your Network Places. To do so, go to Start » My Computer » My Network Places.
To add a network place where your FTP account will go, proceed to Add a Network Place under the Network Tasks tab on the left.
Once you’ve pulled up the wizard dialog box, you can press Next. Select the “choose another network location” in the service provider options, and click next.
When you enter the name of your FTP address, make sure it begins with ftp://. Otherwise, the link won’t work.
In the next window, I’m unchecking log on anonymously and entering my FTP username.
After proceeding, it will ask you to name this new network place. It can either be the server address, or something like My Website. It should be short and easy to remember. Click Next again, and then Finish. You have now successfully set up a local FTP server on your Windows XP computer!
